On http://houseandhome.com/tv, Mazen El-Abdallah of Toronto’s Mazen Studio tours through his Victorian home turned open-concept loft. He hired a contractor to help knock down walls, freshen up the drywall, paint walls a soft neutral and completely redo the kitchen and bathroom. See how floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, drapes and leggy furniture can make a room appear more spacious.

Where the fuck is the television?
Very nice, very cozy home! Good job!
Very interesting risks this designer took. I do not like the drop in stove top in the kitchen. It's just looks odd. Like somethings missing. However, I do like his vision for the upstairs bathroom. An open shower in the middle of the room. I think he reduced his resale options by turning a 3 bedroom home into a 1 bedroom w/a den and unconventional bathroom. Clearly he doesn't want guests staying too long since they will have to sleep in that open den on a tiny daybed.
Love it and its also the first time I liked an oversized mirror with a simple frame in any space. I would have splurged on a solid surface counter though in the kitchen.
Still my favorite house.
Good design and space planning is timeless. Well done
is the mirror custom in the entry vestibule custom?
Very beautiful and well organized
Watching this in 2018 and I'm genuinely surprised with how well the design has aged. Of course some elements haven't but the kitchen style for example is still being done today.
Nope.
Tight budget. Ha
Looks sooo gorgeous I super love everything the colour palette superb:)♥
Why every house must have a Tom Ford book ???
What a beautiful home! Thank you for sharing it with us. 🙂 I especially love the feel of your bathroom.
It's perfect
His explanation was the best part for me.
usual type of design but atleast it's a liveable functional one, not too white and or too made up.
This is a great makeover. I don't share the opinion that a Victorian home was ruined. It's not as if it was preservation quality. Why regard it as a sacred cow? It's not how most people live today.
Why not just build your own modern home instead of ruining a Victorian
his shirt
this is my choice of home. great job.
good taste!
this is beautiful
Love it!!! 😍❤️🙌🏻
Why would you choose a victorian home if your're going to gut the place and ruin the victorian feeling?
omg this is so amazing, the living room is so multifunctional XD
Awesome job man !!…love your home, space planning and taste to their best !!!
so sleek! good job
Good JOOOOOOOBBBBbb
It does give a nice office feel. Although its not as warm/cozy as I like, I appreciate the space; the gallery wall is well organized, the bookshelves on either side of the sofa (flanking the gallery wall and the sofa) gives it a nice balance and uniformity that I think an office needs. For a cook/baker the kitchen is not functional (but its very clean looking). The bathroom is beautiful; I imagine he likes that very Scandinavian open floor shower feel (rather than the sectioned off shower cube. The contractor definitely did a cool job with opening up the place. 🙂 It was fun to watch. 🙂
Where are the cream armchair/dining chairs from?
Great use of the space ! Wonderful style👍
This is such a nice home I think I wanna hire him
The house's original structure and detailing has been completely defiled. This is just awful. :/
Fantastic, stylish bachelor pad! Love the dark, warm kitchen and my favorite space is the bathroom – would update the daybed.
Wonderful design!
it's such a cool place!
