Anne-Marie Barton your video spoke to me. I re-married after the loss of my first husband and moved from Indiana to Utah about 10 years ago. I moved into to a house that was built by my now husband and his late wife. I have always decorated my homes and felt I did a descent job. This home just doesn't speak to me at all. I don't know how to make it a home. Perplexed and depressed in Southern Utah.
Billy Connelly said; 'when you want to give up on life you might as well join the beigeists '. Now I know what he meant. Too neutral for me. However some good tips on texture in this video!
Butt crack in the front!
Could you give us the name if the paints you use ?
Fabric does matter!
This woman has such a strange self definition, and her other definitions are equally jarring. Her definition of kitsch is that the style is new and fresh. I think she needs a dictionary at the very least. "kitsch
,1.art, objects, or design considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.
"the lava lamp is an example of sixties kitsch"
adjective
1.
considered to be in poor taste but appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.
"the front room is stuffed with kitsch knickknacks, little glass and gilt ornaments""
And the Wikipedia definition is "Kitsch, also called cheesiness or tackiness, is art or other objects that appeal to popular rather than high art tastes. Such objects are sometimes appreciated in a knowingly ironic or humorous way. "
Why does this designer keep referring to her immaculate and subdued interior as "kitschy"?
these are great video's! Thank you for taking the time to explain the thought process behind the beauty

You are fabulous, Thank you for this info.
Dear Anna -MarieBarton, this is by far the best and most comprehensive tutorial on design in entire YouTube universe that I have ever seen. I have learned so much from you in this 11 min video than the past few months searching and driving myself crazy. I simply did not know where to start and how to organize my ideas. But you made it so easy by saying start with the fabric. It makes sense and helps in bringing the look together. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and design tips. I wish you continued success and maybe one day when I can afford you, I will give you a call myself π

"Homes..It is our ONE chance to show who we REALLY are"…thats a stretch…sometimes people want to be poetic and they do it wrong, or at least I completely disagree with them.
Loving the neutrals and texture vibe. So relaxing and classic.
Beautiful rooms but a bit too neutral for me.
Hmmm, overboard on the neutrals.
