Architect Gillian Green took a pared-back approach when designing this home. See how she transformed a dark and dated space into a modern home with a reduced palette that still feels warm and inviting.
Gillian opened up the main floor to create a layout that lets the natural light flood in, brightening the clean-lined interior. Concrete floors provide depth and movement, while white oak wood cabinets further the warmth. The kitchen is storage-heavy with a large island where people can gather. A large piece of limestone with stacked logs acts as art in the living room, while black and steel finishes maintain the sleek aesthetic.

The juxtaposition of the warm sleek timber finishes, clean white walls/counters with simple cement floors is perfect. Such a dramatic change, I was wondering if the exterior of the house was changed. Anyway, well done.
A stingu look at the house.
In 40 years we'll look at these trendy minimalistic houses thinking they're as ugly and lifeless as how we're seeing the 1960s concrete buildings now.
Does anyone know where those white pendant lights in the kitchen are from?
Niet gezellig en deze kleur eik vind ik niet mooi.
Mijn keukenblok is te groot, maar ik neem het erbij want het overige is oké.
floor is microcement??
I love plain monotone concrete floors. Super low maintenance, easy to clean and a blank canvas that you can dress it up with rugs and furniture and switch it up!
Love this home. Neat, clean, open and well planned.
This is beautiful, simple and modern with the combination of wood and white color.
It's all very impersonal. Today around the world the interior design is massificated (I´m from Brazil and here we have the same types of projects). About the contemporary architecture I agree with sir Roger Scruton: https://youtu.be/bHw4MMEnmpc
They must have gutted the interior to the studs because there is no reference to what the house used to be. The renovation is really beautiful, but I think I’d miss the original fireplace.
i do not find this to be minimal
Wow,what a transformation! love this minimalist look. I love the neutral colors and materials they used. Love the openness and lots of natural light. However, if I may add: White kitchen backsplash against white wall is not enough contrast for that space. I think black & white backsplash would’ve looked nice.
Concrete floor needs to be slightly darker, not enough contrast against the white walls.
Placing a huge Art piece at the entrance wall or dinning wall would’ve looked nice.
I love the different materials they used for the fireplace. Great job guys! Sure beats the California farmhouse look.
The music on the background ruined the experience of the video for me.
except for the cabinets it looks like most other new builds😅
🤗👏👏👏❤
this is sooo dreamy. Beautiful job.
Love the workmanship. I'm not much into the open space but the color & material used are perfect.
That's quite a transformation! The implementation of wood throughout the design was a fantastic touch. Also, great job on keeping the design simple at the same time.
Nice job, but not minimalist enough for me. I really dislike decorarions. This one has too many small things laying around everywhere.
I wont ever understand why Americans love open kitchens so much. I think theyre a nightmare
Large open spaces with lots of hard reflective surfaces = acoustic nightmare.
Love the kitchen but the rest looks cold and empty. Definitely not like a family home.
0:39 did she just say “radical”
can I use this video for educational purposes? and then I will tag your page on it?

Love the natural light,, but everything else is too sharp and pointy.
This is a wonderful inspiration for the home I'm designing. With less windows and more hue lights to really control the moods of each space. I really like the mud room idea… however I think i'd make it into an air lock to double as an amazon drop off. The kitchen is amazing… I'm thinking i'd do without the island, and replace it with a dining area, to keep symmetry. and then i'd build a table height kitchen buffet hutch behind the couch in the style of the island, ditch the L shape, get some chairs and back it away from the back wall. I really like the vertical subway tiles as a back splash, and am torn on the flooring for longevity; with the right area rugs i think it would work. I'd try to hide my lights in a modern Drop Ceiling Soffit Light, keep my lamps modern on the back of the buffet, and have the top of my window coverings hidden (hotel style), I'd make my laundry room double as my master closet. The kitchen, the tile and the feel are super inspirational , great material choices. VERY OPEN feel, just needs a bit more symmetry for me. I'd love to turn that island in it's exact style/material into a dining table (waterfall edge and all).
I love it however some parts of the house don't look "minimalist" like necessary and having a living room along with a family room felt unnecessary.
Gute Renovierung

I have always hated open plans. Particularly when you are sitting in a living room and you can see somebody cooking in the kitchen. Spacious but ugly.
Needs colour and art. Well done quality fittings but needs warmth to give it a home feeling.
what type if white paint used in the walls
Where to get these barstool?
Way to majorly ruin an older “houwse!” I love the modern, minimalist esthetic, but would never destroy the bones of a vintage structure. I’d build new or buy a vintage modern structure of the 1950’s or 1960’s.
I prefer dark house. House with bright interior, full of windows make me sickkkkk…
